We approached this workshop in a similar fashion in which we had all the previous workshops, with the intention of not merely completing a project but rather attempting to improve the experience for the teachers and students. This was done in a great many ways for this particular project.

This project would once again be shot in Los Angeles on the backlot of a major motion picture studio, which is always a lot of fun but this time we would be shooting at night, something we had never done for an ISM workshop.

Another first would be the frame size we would be shooting with. Fletch decided early on that he prefers the wider aspect ratio. "It just feels right to me, as an artist." Shooting with the aspect ratio of 2.35, most people would see this as simply a wider screen, but for Tristan Whitman, the director of photography and director Darrin Fletcher, this is the most artistic and epic looking ratio available, the most preferable for very dynamic compositions. We think you'll agree when you watch the finished project.

The largest departure from the previous workshops would be a 2 day shooting schedule rather than the 6 days for the past workshops. The remaining 4 days of the "Flashlight" workshop would be filled with small workshops and several different field trips to places such as DreamWorks where they would listen to Lee Clay, a producer, talk about making movies for DreamWorks, and Mole Richardson, where the teachers and students would get their hands on some equipment prior to showing up on the set for the first time. Also, guest speakers were brought in who joined the team to give demonstrations and answer questions about the film industry.
