With
each ISM workshop we try to do something different, not just
with the organization of the workshop itself but with the subject
matter that we tackle. This project was a dark story, similar
to "Simplicity" but it had a cast of teenagers, which
often times find it difficult to act in very serious roles.
We needed three really talented young actors who had some acting
chops but not "theatrical" acting tendencies. These
actors were found in Tiffany Vukich, Lorenzo Swank, and Matt
Simmons.
"'Clean
Start' was another fun workshop to be a part of. I was really
impressed
with the acting ability of the high school students involved;
I think they were equally surprised at their abilities." Nate Wright - Actor
"It
had me a little worried to tell you the truth," said Fletch.
"The whole show depends upon them making it work and
having some kind of chemistry... yeah, I was a little nervous but
on the very first day of principle photography, on the very first
scene, which is the only scene which takes place outside, it
was obvious that this was going to work."
Most
of the really difficult scenes for the actors, such as when Rachel
informs Geoff that she is pregnant or when Geoff tells Jessie
and Rachel that he brought a gun to school, were placed towards
the end of the schedule so the actors could get
used
to being
in
front
of
the camera and familiar with each other enough to let go of their
emotions and just be in the moment with their characters.
This
kind of consideration for the actors, the difficulties they face
and what they have to go through almost always pays off and it
certainly did in this case.
At
the end of shooting each scene with these young actors it was
very obvious to the entire crew that there were going to
be some really nice moments that would reach the screen from
this
small
workshop. |
